Yesterday, I attended a session of the Texas A&M University System Teaching with Technology conference that previewed Kansas State’s Mediated Cultures video, A vision of students today.

Both videos state the obvious. Technology has permeated almost every facet of life for many people, especially students. The good news is that I seem to have chosen a career that won’t be going away anytime soon. The bad news is that I, and many like me, have a challenging future ahead of me. Technology is so often abused in the classroom. Trends in adult learning show that informal learning is drastically increasing at amazing rates. I would argue that the same holds true for children and young adults. Yet, formal education is ignoring this trend. Wake up. It’s time to do things a little different.
